Dear Representative, As housing costs continue to rise, more Americans are finding it increasingly difficult to secure housing they can afford. I appreciate Congress’s continued efforts to advance comprehensive federal housing legislation, including the House’s upcoming consideration of the amended 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. House leadership has worked extensively to ensure the bill aligns with bipartisan priorities. In addition to preserving key smart growth provisions such as the Accelerating Home Building Act and the Community Investment and Property Act, the amended version addresses concerns about large institutional investors' ability to increase housing supply and make housing financing more available to rural and smaller communities. We must deliver more homes that are right-sized for those who need them, in neighborhoods better connected to jobs, services, and transit, allowing more people to afford to live in a wider variety of places, and this work must be done quickly. Therefore, I urge you to vote yes on this amended version and its smart growth provisions.
